Abstract

During this present milieu tourism has become a big business and is being considered to be one of the fastest growing industries of the world. With the advent o f science and technology in the form o f spectacular growth o f transport and communication, all in all tourism has become the fa d and fashion o f the non-veau riche class. It has grown from the pursuits o f a privileged few to a mass movement of people. The fact that impact o f tourism on national economy is becoming increasingly important today owing to the growing size o f the tourist market and the global business changes taking place in India, forces us to plan and develop tourism industry on scientific lines. It needs organizational and managerial skills. Various state governments are giving top priority to the tourism sector for the economic growth and to solve the socio-economic problems. This paper envisages the future prospects o f tourism in the world although the focus is essentially on Indian tourism Industry.
