Abstract

 US President Thomas Jefferson once said “If I am asked  to choose between ‘a Government without a press’ and  ‘a press without a government’ I will not hesitate a moment to choose the later.  In fact one cannot think of a  situation where there is no press. Though Legislature,  Judiciary and Executive are the three constitutionally  sanctioned institutions of democracy which are other
wise called the pillars of democracy press continues to  be the fourth pillar even if it does not have the constitutional sanction.
