Abstract
This study examines the media framing of sustainable environmental development in print
media through a competitive analysis of news coverage. Using a content analysis approach, a
sample of news articles published by Times of India (Online) leading English newspapers
was analyzed for the period of January - December, 2021. The study investigates how the
media frames sustainable environmental development by analyzing the dominant frames used
in news coverage and the extent to which they align with the principles of sustainability.
Results indicate that the dominant frames used in news coverage of sustainable
environmental development are economic development, political conflict, and technological
solutions. The study also highlights the need for more balanced and nuanced coverage of
sustainable environmental development that promotes long-term sustainability and addresses
social and environmental justice concerns.
